HISTORY
Rock Howard is a conflicted soul with many a problems-- but you wouldn't guess it if you saw him from a distance. Born to a normal woman, Marie and crime boss Geese Howard, he was doomed from the start to follow his father's footsteps... had he even cared to do so in the first place. Geese chose to abandon both Marie and Rock, leaving them to fend for themselves in the dangerous town of South Town. South Town was known as a lawless land, people needing to have at least some knowledge of self defense to be able to live in such a town. For the first years of Rock's life, it was a struggle to even live, but both he and his mother made it work, with Rock himself befriending three people who would become lifelong friends: Hotaru Futaba, and the sons of Kim Kaphwan, Kim Jae Hoon and Dong Hwan. With them, South Town's harsh environment became something of a small heaven for Rock, having the childhood any kid would want.

As he grew up, Rock dreamed of meeting his father. This was a tall order to ask, as Marie herself wanted to meet with Geese herself. However, things will take a turn for the worst when Rock turned 7 years old. Marie contracted an unknown disease, and slowly sapped away at her life until she was frail and couldn't look over her son. Desperate for any sort of help, Rock ran to his father Geese, seeking both medical help and the chance to bond with the crime lord. He even told Geese that Marie would've loved to see him once more. Any man would've jumped at the chance, however Geese was a man of dark ambition, and found Rock's presence to be a nuisance. He tosses Rock to the side, stating that he has no time for children like him. Rock returns home disheartened, only to find his mother dead in her bed at home that very same night. Rock, furious and wracked with grief, could not do a thing for his mother in the end and cursed Geese for it all: for his mother's passing, for denying him, for refusing to help when they needed it most.

This also happened to be the same night Rock discovered his inherited powers-- the same energy his father controlled, Rock could use as well. It scared Rock to know that his evil father had given him such a cruel fate, but this was one thing he could not get rid of. It was a torturous fact, and due to not having any other place to go, Rock wanders the streets of South Town, orphaned. He's unaware where his mother's remains lie, as adults he didn't recognize whisked his mother away. Rock, now alone, tried to find a means to survive, resorting to stealing money and scraps of food in order to survive. He tried to take advantage of South Town's resources, but often found himself with the tail ends of service, due to people often breaking into fights.

As Rock wandered the streets, he spotted a man amongst one of the many crowds that gathered whenever a fight broke out in South Town. It was his first encounter with the Legendary Wolf himself, Terry Bogard. As it stands, Terry only believed Rock to be a wandering child, despite the fact that he was aware that his blond hair and last name pointed to him being the son of his mortal enemy, Geese Howard. Terry brushes that aside for the moment, and tells Rock that he should at least understand his father, and to get along. This left Rock dissatisfied, and doesn't allow himself to do so. Sometime later, Terry and Geese settle their score. Terry meets Rock once more, but this time it's his understanding that Rock is now an orphan. Because he and Geese settled the score, he sees no reason to hate Rock, and in fact, decides to take him into his care. He didn't care if it would be seen as wrong-- he saw an orphan, just like Terry once was, in need of just as much help as he and his brother Andy once were. This kindness sparks Rock's own once more,

With time and under the tutelage of Terry, Rock became a fighter in his own right, using skills he learned from Terry and the Hyakkyokuseiken style of martial arts as well as mixing in his own acrobatic skills that he's learned over the years. He's also gained an interest in street basketball, as it was often the pastime of the two when Rock had a chance. Thanks to Terry's perpetual travel, Rock's learned to enjoy traveling himself, and eagerly waits for the next trip.

However, being alone as an orphan has made Rock grow up a lot faster than other children. Thanks to his new guardian, he's learned how to handle most chores, and has found a passion for cooking. He also bloomed in the realm of music, having learned how to play the guitar and able to match a melody perfectly at first listen, even if he hasn't heard the song in years.
DIVERGENCE
SNK has two main timelines: one from the Fatal Fury/Garou series and one from The King of Fighters series. Where Rock's history diverges is dependent on whether Geese Howard, Rock's father dies atop Geese Tower in his final fight with Terry Bogard. Both timelines are canon, but Rock's character development depends on if Geese is alive or not. Both timelines are discussed below.

PERSONALITY
Rock's energy based powers are an effective way to stop people in his tracks. However, they are inherited from his father, Geese, who gained them using unsavory means. Despite how much he trains, Rock is still very susceptible to falling victim to its shadow, yet still pushes himself to get out of that shadow.. However, when push comes to shove, Rock will willingly use it in order to stop anyone in their tracks.
Rock fights with just his fists and wits, being a perfect mix of both Terry and Geese. This is also reflected in his personality. He is often shy and reserved, but still being able to hold a conversation with most. He struggles to speak to women, having grown up mostly around men. Rock himself doesn't feel as if this is a hindrance, but will find it a little more difficult to connect to a woman than a man. The only women in his life he was able to speak to was Hotaru Futaba, his childhood friend, and his mother who cared deeply for him.
